Christmas and New Years Posts

What are your holiday traditions?

We are smack dab in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season! It’s hard to ignore this when all around us are decorations, lights, commercials, music and specials on tv. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣But this season is different because this year has been different. And for many of us, the traditions we are used to taking part in will also be different. ⁣

For me this year will bring my first Christmas away from my Oma. I know it’s happened before when I was really young, but I don’t have any memory of Christmas without her. This makes me so sad. I’ve had a hard time wrapping my head around not spending Christmas Eve at her house with my family and all the good food! ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Christmas Day is usually spent lounging on the couch watching Christmas Vacation, doing the Rudolph puzzle and waiting for Oma’s dinner to be ready. A very relaxed way to celebrate the holidays. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Then it all feels over just as quick as it came. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣So this year, as different as the holidays will be, there will still be traditions -old and new. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣💻 Christmas Eve Eve will be spent virtually with friends instead of in person. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🏠 Christmas Eve will be at my house this year, with as many of those goodies as possible. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🎄 I’ll still watch It’s a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve and Christmas Vacation on Christmas Day. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🦆 We will still have duck and I will attempt the sides. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🍪 My sister in law, my mom and I are going to do a cookie exchange with each other.⁣
⁣⁣
⁣😭 I’ll still probably cry at least once. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🥃 There will be Baileys on ice in my moose glass. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🎅🏽 Christmas movies on repeat. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Even though there are things I’ve had to give up or change, I can’t help but just pause and recognize how grateful I am to be here, healthy, loved and able to celebrate in some way. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣So what are your holiday traditions? What have you had to shift this year? What are new traditions you are starting? ⁣

Happy New Year!

As we say goodbye to 2020 and hello to a new year, I can’t help but feel excited for all that’s still to come. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣I know this last year was one most of us couldn’t imagine and brought with it loss, sadness, and anxiety. But it was also a year of change, growth, acceptance, connection and insight. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣So as we ring in 2021, I’m letting go of the expectations I had of last year and putting my energy into being more present, aware and at peace. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣I hope everyone has a safe evening wherever you are and whoever you’re with. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🎉Happy New Year!🥂
