Welcoming the last month of 2020

December 1, 2020⁣
⁣⁣
⁣We’re here! We made it through November. Restrictions in place, different colour zones to understand and lockdowns still on people’s minds. But we’re here. The last month of 2020!⁣
⁣⁣
⁣December first usually starts my count down to Christmas, but if I’m being honest, I already started dreaming of the holiday season back in November. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Of course, this holiday season will surely look different than usual without all the larger get togethers with friends and family. All the meals shared together and time spent won’t be the same as other years. But I think I’ve come to accept that this is just part of the course and there will come a day when I will be throwing Christmas parties, hugging my friends and squishing all the family into the living room around the tree. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣December appeared with lots of snow (like always), making uptown Waterloo look soft and beautiful. Nature again reminding me to pause and just be here in this moment. ⁣

My brother took this awesome shot of the fresh snow!

I caught myself thinking of all I wish December could be this year but won’t be, and that I just need to be where I am today and that’s enough for now. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣So here’s what I did to take a mindful minute today: ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣❄️ Felt the cold snow in my hand as I was forming snow balls to throw for Scout. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣💨 Took some icy, slow, deep belly breaths as I was outside shovelling the snow. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🧏🏼‍♀️ Listened to the slushy sounds as cars drove by. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣☕️ Really enjoyed my hot chocolate this evening. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🌨 Watched the snow fall! ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣So now that December is here, what are you remembering to do for yourself as we enter into a busy month? How can you take a mindful minute for yourself? How can you keep connected with those friends and family members you might not be able to see this year? What do you love about December? ⁣
