Before covid-19 came around and we all went into isolation, I was loving my workout routine. For me it kept my mental health in a good place, and I love strengthening my muscles. Anyone else love the burn for the next two days after a killer workout?
Since being stuck at home I am missing my gym routines more and more. I know I get out for walks, can go swimming and can do home workouts that have been really good and different every day, but I miss my gyms (yes, both of them!).
I miss this tribe of women I stumbled upon back in a October at a very different gym than I was used too. It was hot pink and purple, sparkled, and everyone was so encouraging to each other. It quickly felt like a second home. I miss our morning workouts, our high fives, and the bubble machine going off to let us know we’re all done!

For me, my go to exercises involved my love for kettle bells, deadlifts, sumo squats, weighted rows, lat pull downs, quad extensions, and leg press. Oh how I miss pushing 300 ponds with my legs! Have you ever taken your stress out on weights? I’d recommend it, it feels so good! I miss barbell hip thrusts, TRX rows, sled pushes across the purple carpet and even those damn battle ropes! I miss it all.

I’ve never been an athlete. I love basketball, but wouldn’t last long on the court. I’d much rather be kayaking or hiking than playing soccer or baseball. I love swimming and truly believe I was meant to be a mermaid, but ask me to go for a run and I’ll take a hard pass on that. On a trip to Japan last year, my brother’s friend asked me if I played any sports back in Canada and I quickly said no. But then my brother chimed in and said, “she doesn’t do traditional sports, but she likes to lift heavy weights.”
So I guess that’s my thing, that’s my jam, that’s my go to physical activity. What about you?! What kinds of physical movements help your body feel strong? What helps you to feel confident? In what ways does physical movement help your mental health?
